Fountain of youth

Since its existence, the greatest common desire of humanity is to reach immortality. The myth of the Fountain of Youth can be considered the most famous ancient version of it. This story, which has reappeared in different cultures and metamorphosed over the years, is reinterpreted with the installation of Ortadoğu. Contrary to the legend, in which immortality is pursued, this work represents the chosen death by the hands of youth. In this installation we see two figures – their youth spent – in a plastic baby pool filled with drug packaging, bottles of alcohol and wilted roses. From a distance we can ascertain that the duo look young by their clothing and posture, however upon closer inspection of their faces it is revealed how they have become distorted and grotesque in the pursuit of their nasty life-style. These two figures seek a rescue in death and are descriptors of a desperate generation.
